BELT GRADING SYSTEM

Japan Karate-Do Nobukawa-Ha Shito-Ryu Kai-India (Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Academy of India) has unique system of grading children and adults so they are trained and properly prepared for Blackbelt level. Dr. Jigaro Kano founder of Judo was the first to introduce belt ranking system in Judo as a visible indication of the students' progress.

The Kyu Grade is the rank below Blackbelt starts at Japan Karate-Do Nobukawa-Ha Shito-Ryu Kai-India (Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Academy of India) from 11th Kyu as White belt beginner and the students pass through the ranks taking grading examinations for which they are awarded with different coloured belts. The Kyu grading system varies from school to school and reaches up to the level of Blackbelt. Blackbelt is the level where a martial artist begins his journey in martial art and Kyu grade is the level where he/she prepares oneself for journey. The old karate founder and legends of Karate-Do started their training in white belts and after year and years of Karate training their belt ended up becoming black and torn because of the usage and training and they never washed their belts. The proponents of this theory assert that the belt, which was initially white, gets gradually dirtier and dirtier and so goes from white to brown to black in that way.

However the Dr. Jigaro Kano introduced and designed proper belt grading system. At Japan Karate-Do Nobukawa-Ha Shito-Ryu Kai-India (Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Academy of India) the Kyu (rank) always starts at 11 and ends at 1. Black belts ranks then increases from Shodan (1st Dan) to Ju Dan (10th Dan).

Reasons for Belt Grading :

The Belt grading in Karate-Do is an important part because the syllabus and requirement for Blackbelt level has been divided and organized within the 11 Kyus before Blackbelt so the students' practises and masters each and every technique properly and then have to undergo the examination process for each and every rank. This examination process demands proficiency in preparatory exercises, Kihon (Basic), conditioning drills, Japanese terminology, Kumite (Sparring), Katas (technical pattern set) etc.

Testing and training students in Karate-Do motivates the student to train more and set higher goals to attain, which improves the level of proficiency in the art. The advance study of Karate-Do demands high level of proficiency in the art as well correct Budo manners, etiquette, and discipline. Budo etiquette is not just "performed" when requested. Rules of Budo (loyalty, respect and politeness) must become a part of our lives.
